James Bond 007

Omega and James Bond
Agent 007 has always seen sporting a Omega timepiece, sometimes with spy modifications.

This super spy has been wearing a trusty Omega for about 2 decades. A watch good enough for a super spy now that says something about Omega.

An Omega timepiece has appeared since 1995 in Golden eye up until the latest movie Skyfall (2013)

Batman/Bruce Wayne's Time Piece

What Watch Would Batman/Bruce Wayne Wear?!

Fiction Billionaire Bruce Wayne is actually one of the most famous billionaires in reality. But what time piece would this billionaire playboy/dark knight wear?
The answer is a Jaeger Le-Coultre

More Specifically the Jaeger Le-Coultre Reverso Grande Taille
Yup this billionaire crime fighter wears this classy timepiece.

You can see Bruce Wayne wear this timepiece in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins
But lets go a bit further in time and you can see the Batman wearing this timepiece in Batman Forever by

The Jaeger Le-Coultre Reverso Grande Taille is very affordable compared to many other timepieces I've written about it is actually under the 10k range in most occasions. It has a Jaeger Le-Coultre caliber 822that has 134 parts 21 jewels with a power reserve of 45 hours.
This timepiece has a 3 bar about 90 meters of water proof
Measuring 42.2 mm long and 26 mm wide
width is 9.3 mm.
So for any Batman fan this is the watch to get!

Tag Heuer Watch To Time The Flash

Tag Heuer has two watches that seemed to be made to time how fast  DC hero Flash goes around the earth.
These two models are the Mikrogirder 2000 and Mikrogirder 10000.

These two watches set a new standard for chronograph watches.
I will be talking about the Mikrogirder 10000

These watches carry 3 chronograph readers. At 3 o'clock it has a 1/100th of a second reader, at 12 it has your basic seconds chronograph and then it has a blue central 5/10,000th of a second.
The watch has an Anthracite and Silver dial with a visible linear oscillator, black arabic numerals and hand-applied "10000" at 12. Luminescent markers on the hour and minute hands and the chronograph hands at 3 and 12 are solid rose gold, the logo is also solid rose gold.

This timepiece has a movement with 339 components with 28,800 vibrations an hour and 7,200,000 vibrations with the chronograph feature on.
42 hours of power reserve and 3 minutes for the chronograph.
The case has a diameter of 45 mm and is made of Black titanium carbide.

Tag-Heuer:
"In early 2012, TAG Heuer’s award-winning team of engineers and watch masters made a radical decision: to start from a blank page, forgetting the hairspring and the balance wheel to repeat, using mechanistic theory, Christian Huygens’ extraordinary accomplishment of 1657— the total reinvention of mechanical watch regulation. The MIKROGIRDER represents a complete departure from the conventional, 3-centuries-old Christiaan Huygens system, which today still reigns over the mechanical watch industry. Instead of a spiral shape in a classical hairspring, it uses a coupling blade/girder and excitatory blade/girder system working with a linear oscillator.
The Mikrogirder system vibrates isochronously at a very small angle, as opposed to a traditional watch, which vibrates at an angle of up to 320 degrees. The advantages are numerous. In a classic spiral hairspring system, the effect of gravity due to mass is a dominant issue. With the MIKROGIRDER, the problem no longer exists. There is no loss of amplitude and the movement’s frequency can be modulated on a very large spectrum of frequency without overburdening the power supply.
The result is a significant increase in precision (division of time) and performance (frequency accuracy and stability). The MIKROGIRDER energy performance will enable TAG Heuer chronographs to attain ultra-high frequencies never before dreamed possible."

Now I had to search the web to show you just how the 5/10,000th of a second of a feature looks like.
Flash is known for being fast but it takes him about 1/10th of a second to revolve around the earth by that time this watch would have gone around its dial twice. Which means it revolves around the dial every 1/20th of a second.

JLC Counters Gravity Affects, SIHH Jaeger-LeCoultre

JLC Counters Gravity Affects, SIHH Jaeger-LeCoultre

SIHH is one of my favorite watch events.
My last few post have been about watches released at the SIHH
This next post will be about.. yes.. another.. watch released at the SIHH
Don't worry guys I'll review watches that come in to us later.
But come on SIHH releases some of the most magnificent watches one can lay their eyes on.

But today I'll be covering 2 Jaeger-LeCoultre
We'll start with the Jaeger-LeCoultre Duomètre à Sphérotourbillon
The Spherotourbillon is part of the Duometre line, a line in which all watches use the Dual Wing concept this concept to put simply uses two power sources one for your time keeping and the other for your regulation and complication needs.
This watch will be sold in very limited quantities, 75 in platinum and an unknown amount of rose gold but it'll be limited as well as stated by Jaeger-LeCoultre CEO.
Ok so lets explain why there is a Dual Wing concept.
In a watch when you use its features a certain amount of power is used to support them, this can affect your normal features.
Let me show another world example imagine you're on your computer it has say 8 GB and you have your platform and start up programs that use up say 3 GB (That's a lot for just a platform and startup programs I know) then you open a video editing program that uses 4.5 GB you'll notice that your operation on your basic platform might slow down, this is essentially the same for watches.
To resolve this they gave the complication and regulation its own power source so it won't affect the normal time keeping of the timepiece.
Seeing the image above of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Duomètre à Sphérotourbillon
You can see there are two mainspring sections one labeled Hours/Minutes the other labeled Regulator.
Separating the power source assures high accuracy
But just to take it a step further in accuracy they used a dual-axis, dual cage tourbillon on a 20° incline.
The fact that it uses two axis means the tourbillon can counteract gravity in a large magnitude of positions.
To make this watch even more exact they've added a flyback seconds button at 2 o'clock which resets your seconds without stopping the watch.
The Watch has a 382 movement which consist of 460 parts with a 50 hour power reserve.
Jaeger-LeCoultre says the following about their timepiece
"An authentic revolution in the field of Grande Complication models, the Duomètre Sphérotourbillon, stemming from almost 180 years of history and invention unique to Jaeger-LeCoultre, is equipped withan unprecedented multi-axis tourbillon. In addition to the axis of its carriage, the Sphérotourbillon has a second axis inclined at 20° and thereby freeing it from the effects of gravity in all positions. The revolutionary `Dual-Wing` concept featured in Calibre 382 once again paves the way for an original function and makes this exceptional model the first tourbillon watch that is precisely adjustable thanks to the small seconds flyback system."
The watch is beautiful and unique.
on the dial you will find two power reserve indicators.
A Date feature around the hour and minute indicator
A second indicator as well as a dual time feature.
Of course your able to see the beautiful tourbillon on the face of the watch.
Look below to see the The Rose Gold Model and White Gold Model as well as a special model that seems to have a night sky dial which I loved.

A. Lange & Söhne Release a new watch, its cost? about 2.6 million USD

A. Lange & Söhne

The watchmaking company A. Lange & Söhne has launched a new timepiece, one that cost about $2.6 million. Only six of them will be made. This timepiece was unveiled at the SIHH show in Geneva.
This was one of the 7 timepieces revealed by A. Lange & Söhne.

I will be talking about the A. Lange & Söhne Perpetual Calendar Terraluna

This is another timepiece that is a true beauty, a diamond in the sand.

This Watch Features a beautiful orbital moon-phase display, but what makes is so special is that it also displays the moons location relative to earth and sun.
It's orbital moon-phase is accurate for about 1,058 years.

The Terraluna comes in a dazzling rose gold or impeccable white gold.
The case is  44.5 mm by 16.5 mm
The dial features 3 separate time indicators each one containing the perpetual calendar.
The Minute display contains the date indicator , the hour display contains the day indicator, and the seconds display contains the day indicator.
If you look at the 15 on the minute indicator you will find the leap year indicator to its right.
It also features a power reserve indicator at the bottom of the dial, this watch has a power reserve of 14 days.
The Dial itself is made  of solid silver.
The movement itself is a beautiful masterpiece.
A Lange & Söhne says the following about their timepiece.
Richard Lange Perpetual Calendar “Terraluna”

"OVERVIEW DETAILS
Apart from the hours, minutes, and seconds, the regulator dial of the RICHARD LANGE PERPETUAL CALENDAR “Terraluna” also accommodates the four precisely jumping perpetual calendar displays: date, day of week, month, and leap year. The patent-pending orbital moon-phase display can be admired through the sapphire-crystal caseback of the watch. It shows the current moon phase as well as the positions of the moon and sun as an observer in the northern hemisphere would see them. The day and night halves of this hemisphere are also discernible."
A truly beautiful timepiece.

Apple and Watches?

Today at the workshop it was all about Apple's and watches.
Not edible apples but the new Apple Iphones
Questions flew around about the new Iphones and watches were being repaired.

Apple and watches, watches and Apple.

Soon we'll be repairing Apple watches the iWatch (which actually might end up being a tv)
But no seriously Apple might be a luxury brand but it isn't quite the same as the art that luxury watch brands can bring to the table.

Just take a look at this beautiful timepiece.

"It is the most impressive watch in the industry the craftsmanship quality the design is very simple they've been making the watch for 30 years as far as the quality of the parts there is nothing better it's always a privileged to work on these watches, they are truly beautiful pieces"- Patrick Desbiolles

Patrick Desbiolles with a Patek-Philippe

In the watch world there is a name that stands out..
That name is Patek-Philippe you can't go much higher than that.

Patek-Phillipe Nautilus

This morning Patrick had a simple task with this Patek, the head of the screw was sticking out a bit on the rotor. There was a bit of contact with the screw head and the case and it was preventing the time piece from working properly. So as he did this task I took a few quick snaps of him working.

Seeing the watch apart gives us a completely different view of the time piece.

Notice how Patrick uses a bronze tweezers rather than steel, the reason for this is that steel is a stronger metal and would scratch the time pieces while bronze is much softer and won't cause the damage steel would.

Like us on Facebook!

Aren't you glad I took advantage and took these photos?!
Seeing it apart is simply stunning being able to see the movement is always a thrill.

Now I waited for Patrick to do his work and case the watch so I can get pictures of the complete time piece.

Normally I say what I like and dislike about the watch but this is a special case. I have NOTHING to dislike. Patek-Philippe have truly brought simplicity to a master piece. No crazy design its all about the movement and class.

"It's the best automatic movement ever created in the watch making industry made by Jaeger Lecoultre made for over 40 years and sold to the top brands Vacheron, Audermars Piguet, and Patek Phillipe. It is an amazing movement to say least."- Patrick Desbiolles

Name: Patek-Philippe Nautilus
Movement type: Automatic Date
Casing & Bracelet 18K Gold

Twerk? No! Urwerk!

This next watch is such a treat.
No it isn't twerk (A dance if you can actually call it that)

It's a Urwerk, I have personally never heard of this watch but when I saw it come into the workshop it grabbed my attention instantly.

The top photos show the Urwerk disassembled not including the top case cover.
Take a closer look of the image to the left. Look closely and the middle right of the box and you'll see a very intriguing design, it actually reminded be a little of the Opus 11.
As for the model its a UR 103 on their website it says the following of the time piece.

"With the UR-103 models, URWERK takes its 'no limits' approach to haute horlogerie ever further. Four orbiting and rotating satellites display the hours, with each satellite indicating the time in both analogue and digital fashion as it arcs across the minute chapter. Turning the watch over reveals a new surprise: the Control Board. This control panel is reminiscent of the dashboard of a sports car and features precision indication of the minute and seconds for exact time-setting, power reserve indication and fine-adjustment screw. "

So lets make a quick little passport for the time piece.

Name: Urwerk
Model: UR-103
Cost: $35,000+
Case type:Gold
Size: 50mm

A big interesting watch. Here we will see the watch in one piece.

I love the back as it looks like a car speedometer and fuel gauge which is really cool.  The thing that looks like a gas gauge is actually your power reserve and the numbers are the hours and minutes left which is really nice.
But its on the back of the watch and you can't really show it off (Not that the watch needs any more showing off its already a creative master piece)
The satellite hour markers are amazing but I can imagine it would take some time to get use to telling time.
It looks a bit confusing to me but I guess that's the entire point of the watch to be different.
The huge crown is fitting on this watch as it was on the Richard Mille I showed you guys before.

I guess all we have to do now is wait for a rapper to have a song saying "I make your girl twerk while I wear my Uwerk"

In the end this Uwerk is a rare time piece that hasn't been seen in person by many people and I was really happy to be able to see it.

The first watch! Richard Mille

As Promised Watches

Lets start the first day and first watch with a Richard Mille

In my opinion this watch looks like road signs put together.
Not bashing the watch at all I actually like it.
This Richard Mille is a RM11 Chrono Date.
Value: Over $30,000 USD

I'm going to say what I love about this time piece the by what I dislike.

Likes: I honestly love the crown the look of it on the case is just so appealing, a nice oversized crown with a rubber loop just seems so fitting. Then if you look at it from the side it looks like a cars tire and rims. I also love that the case is Titanium giving it a nice low glow look.

Dislikes: For my dislikes I really dislike how the hands and design make it look somewhat like a railroad stop. Although I do LOVE that you can see all the beautiful gears working.

Overall this is a very lovely time piece in the larger range with a nice movement inside. Richard Mille did a great job in designing this time piece. Feel free to tell us your opinions on this time piece.
